Dr. Jorge Cervilla. LMS, MSc, PhD, FRCPsych.
Birth/Nationality: 1966, Granada (Spain)

I was born in Spain and grew up mainly in Granada and also partially in Barcelona. I did my medical school training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Granada, qualifying as a medical doctor in 1990.

During the 90’s, I trained clinically as a medical specialist in psychiatry in London, UK, where I obtained my medical specialist certificates after working there for about 10 years. Thus, I completed my basic specialist training within the University College and Royal Free Hospitals training schemes and then moved on to the South London and Maudsley scheme to complete my higher specialist training.

Over this period I also started working as a medical researcher and, eventually, became a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, where I trained as an academic. Back in Spain, I worked in Barcelona for 6 years and , currently, hold the post of Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Granada (Spain).

Languages I speak, write and read to full proficiency in Spanish, English and Catalan

Clinical Approach

I understand mental health and neuropsychiatric disorders from a holistic and eclectic perspective. I focus on diagnosis using both direct interviewing and objective measuring of occurring symptoms via psychological tests. I have worked as a doctor in psychiatry for over 25 years now and have ample experience in dealing with patients suffering from anxiety, depression, insomnia, addiction, neurosis, psychosis and dementia or other disorders.

I manage cases following a procedure consisting on, firstly, one or two Initial Assessment Consultations  to establish a diagnosis and a management plan; Secondly, follow-up sessions that can be either general and shorter (focused on general support, counselling and medication) or specific and longer (integrative psychotherapy combining medical, interpersonal and psychodynamic elements). In between consultations, that can be either on-line via video-conference  or face-to-face, we recommend to keep in touch for queries on progress or difficulties via our private messaging system .
